My objective was to give Julio Cortázar’s Hopscotch a fresh look that would spark curiosity in young Canadian readers and rescue this Latin-American classic from being overlooked. I started by drawing the cover by hand with chalk (clear, nostalgic, and playful) before refining it in Illustrator to balance texture with polish. Childhood colors and subtle hopscotch-inspired typography bring a sense of ease and approachability, while the chalk texture keeps the design light and engaging. The result is a cover that feels vibrant and accessible, while staying true to the inventive spirit of Cortázar’s work.
